There will be 90 seconds of silence at the beginning of each audio recording. During these 90 seconds, you should familiarize yourself with the test questions. You may need to scroll down to preview all the questions. You will not be able to select your response choices during this preview.
After the 90 seconds of silence, you will hear a spoken message. Listen carefully. Each spoken message will be played twice. After the spoken message has played twice, move to the next screen to begin answering the questions.

Male: Salut Clarisse, tu as passé de bonnes vacances ?

- Enter to expand or collapse answer.Answer expanded
- Correct Response: A. This question requires examinees to identify explicit and relevant information in a spoken message. When Clarisse comments on her visit to the Lascaux cave, she describes the beauty of the frescoes as breathtaking ("époustouflantes"), adding that she is particularly struck by their vivid colors ("les couleurs surtout").
- tragique
- romantique
- intéressant
- douteux
- Enter to expand or collapse answer.Answer expanded
- Correct Response: D. This question requires examinees to determine the meaning and nuances of words and phrases as they are used in spoken messages, including commonly used idiomatic expressions, figurative language, and common colloquial and culturally authentic expressions. The expression "tiré par les cheveux" means "farfetched." It is used by the male speaker when he expresses doubts about the evidence that supports the theory that the artists who painted the frescoes were women.
- Enter to expand or collapse answer.Answer expanded
- Correct Response: B. This question requires examinees to make inferences or draw conclusions based on the context, situation, and information given in a spoken message. When Clarisse asks Guillaume if he knew that she went to Dordogne, Guillaume reminds Clarisse that she did send him a photograph from Lascaux meaning that he knows she went to Dordogne since this is where Lascaux is located.
- Enter to expand or collapse answer.Answer expanded
- Correct Response: C. This question requires examinees to determine an assumption, an intent, a perspective, or a point of view by analyzing the communicative strategies and social and cultural contexts of a spoken message. By calling attention to the fact that the cave is merely a reproduction of the original, and asking Clarisse whether this fact might have somewhat spoiled her visit ("ça n'a pas un peu gâché ton expérience ?"), Guillaume is expressing his point of view that he would prefer to see the original caves. The knowledge that he is not seeing the real thing might spoil his experience.
- Enter to expand or collapse answer.Answer expanded
- Correct Response: D. This question requires examinees to determine the ways in which a speaker's point of view or perspectives are influenced by the cultural perspectives that underlie the cultural products and practices of the target country or countries, including the arts, architecture, historical events, science, influential individuals, or the political, economic, social, intellectual, or geographic contexts of the target language and culture(s). The theory that the authors of the cave paintings were likely women is being discussed between the speakers. This theory is supported by the hypothesis that the hands that are printed on the frescoes are women's hands because if they were men's hands, the length of certain fingers compared to other fingers of the hand would be different.
