Directions for Interpretive Listening Selected-Response Questions

For the Interpretive Listening section of the test, you will listen to audio recordings containing spoken messages in the target language and answer selected-response questions written in the target language based on each message.

For each audio recording, a preview of the test questions associated with the spoken message will be presented on the screen. The audio recording will begin playing automatically. Once the audio recording begins, you will not be able to pause, stop, or replay it.

There will be 90 seconds of silence at the beginning of each audio recording. During these 90 seconds, you should familiarize yourself with the test questions. You may need to scroll down to preview all the questions. You will not be able to select your response choices during this preview.

After the 90 seconds of silence, you will hear a spoken message. Listen carefully. Each spoken message will be played twice. After the spoken message has played twice, move to the next screen to begin answering the questions.

Please be aware that the visual enhancements Example of the Color Scheme visual enhancement control and Example of the Font Size visual enhancement control cannot be adjusted during the Interpretive Listening section of the test. You must make any desired adjustments now before you select "Next" to begin the Interpretive Listening section. You will not be able to adjust these features again until you have completed this section of the test.

Click the  start bold Next end bold  button when you have finished reading these directions and are ready to begin the Interpretive Listening section of the test. Once you advance to the next screen, the first audio recording will start automatically with 90 seconds of silence.

Male: Salut Clarisse, tu as passé de bonnes vacances ?

Female: Salut Guillaume, oui, tu sais que je suis allée en Dordogne ?

Male: Bien sûr, souviens-toi, tu m'as envoyé une photo de Lascaux !

Female: Ah oui, c'est vrai. Ah, Lascaux, c'était encore mieux que je ne l'espérais.

Male: Vraiment ? Raconte !

Female: Eh bien évidemment, les fresques sont époustouflantes, les couleurs surtout, qui sont encore plus belles que sur les photos.

Male: Et le fait que tu as visité une reproduction de la véritable grotte, ça n'a pas un peu gâché ton expérience ?

Female: Pas du tout, c'est vraiment bien fait, le site est très émouvant. Il faut dire aussi que nous avions une guide du tonnerre.

Male: Vous a-t-elle dit qu'on a récemment découvert que les peintres de ces fresques étaient des femmes ?

Female: Oui, quelle surprise, n'est-ce pas ? Tout le monde pensait que les peintres étaient des hommes puisque les fresques sont en général des scènes de chasse.

Male: J'ai lu que les femmes de la préhistoire rapportaient au camp les proies tuées par les chasseurs.

Female: Bizarre. Mais ça expliquerait pourquoi la chasse les intéressait autant, je suppose.

Male: Mais comment peut-on savoir que les peintres étaient des femmes ?

Female: Il y a souvent des empreintes de mains sur les fresques et un scientifique a remarqué que ce sont à 75 % du temps des mains de femme.

Male: Et qu'est-ce qui prouve que ce sont des mains de femme ?

Female: Il paraît que les hommes ont l'annulaire plus grand que l'index, alors que chez les femmes ces deux doigts ont la même taille.

Male: Oh, ça me semble un peu tiré par les cheveux, cette histoire. Et puis comment sait-on que les mains sont celles de l'artiste ?

Female: Je n'ai pas demandé. Peut-être que c'est une signature universelle ?

Male: Je ne suis pas du tout convaincu.

Female: On verra bien si cette théorie tient la route. Moi, je trouve ça plutôt sympa d'imaginer mes archi-arrières-grand-mères en peintres muralistes !
